Reef Lab

A Nullpointer Labs product

Give your reef tank a memory.

A reef tank is a chemistry experiment you have to keep alive — and the readings from three weeks ago matter exactly at the moment you can no longer remember them. Reef Lab is the logbook for that: water parameters, dosing, maintenance, livestock and costs in one place, with voice input and an AI that knows your system.

// the idea

Talk to it instead of typing

Standing in front of the tank you have wet hands and no appetite for forms. So in Reef Lab one tap on the mic is enough: “KH is 8.2” is saved as a reading, “dosed 5 ml of NoPox extra today” as a one-off dose on the right pump head, “changed 40 litres of water” as a water change, “cleaned the skimmer” matched to your saved maintenance routine.

When something stays unclear the app asks instead of guessing — and every entry can be undone straight away. If you would rather type, type; the voice input is a shortcut, not a requirement.

Alongside it sits an AI chat with real context: volume, latest readings, livestock, dosing and equipment all travel with the question. So the answer is millilitres per day and a safe multi-day plan, not “keep an eye on it”.

// features

What is in it

Everything that happens to the tank over a year — and everything it costs.

Parameters & trends

KH, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, phosphate, pH and salinity. Charts over 1 month, 3 months, 1 year or all of it, with min, average, max and latest.

Traffic-light zones

Optimal, marginal, critical — per entry and at a glance on the tank screen, with a zone reference showing the target corridor for every parameter.

Everything in one chart

All parameters normalised on top of each other, so you can see what moves together instead of comparing seven charts side by side.

Dosing with history

Pump heads with product, element and daily amount. Pause, resume, dose by hand, change the rate — every change stays visible in the history.

Care & water changes

Water changes, cleaning, equipment service, filter media, products used and observations. Templates turn recurring jobs into a single tap.

Inventory & real cost

Fish, corals, inverts, equipment, salt, food, test kits and media — with price, shop, date and currency. Filter the list and the total follows.

Receipt scanning

Photograph the receipt and the line items land in your inventory with price, shop, currency and date — cross-checked against the receipt total.

Tank report

An assessment of the whole system: what is going well, what to watch, what is a real risk — and whether parameters, livestock, light and flow actually fit together.

Diary, calendar & calculators

Photo diary per coral or animal, a monthly calendar, notes and to-dos. Calculators for salt mix, salinity, parameter correction and daily consumption — results go straight to the pump.

Offline-first, with you everywhere

Reef Lab is local-first: everything lives on the device and works without an account — including in the sump cabinet where there is no signal. Sign in and you get cloud sync across all your devices on top.

Several tanks side by side, litres or gallons, °C or °F, dark mode, English and German. Android is on Google Play, the browser version runs as a web app, and the iOS release is on the way.

It is free to use, including 5 AI requests a day shared between chat, voice input and receipt scanning.

// questions

Frequently asked

What is Reef Lab?

Reef Lab is a logbook for saltwater and reef aquariums. Water parameters, dosing, maintenance, livestock and costs live in one place, with charts, totals and an AI chat that knows your specific tank. It is not a freshwater app with a saltwater mode bolted on.

Which water parameters can I track?

KH, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, phosphate, pH and salinity. Each parameter gets charts over 1 month, 3 months, 1 year or everything, with minimum, average, maximum and latest value, plus a traffic-light rating: optimal, marginal, critical.

How does the voice input work?

Tap the mic and talk. Sentences like "KH is 8.2", "dosed 5 ml of NoPox extra today" or "changed 40 litres of water" are filed automatically in the right place — as a reading, as a one-off dose on the matching pump head, or as a water change. If anything stays unclear the app asks instead of guessing, and every entry can be undone straight away.

Does Reef Lab work without an internet connection?

Yes. The app is offline-first: everything is stored on the device and works without an account. Signing in adds cloud sync across all your devices on top.

Does Reef Lab support Salifert test kits?

Yes. With Salifert kits you enter the syringe reading and the app converts it into the actual value for you.

Which platforms is Reef Lab on, and what does it cost?

Android via Google Play and any browser as a web app; the iOS version is on the way. It is free to use and includes 5 AI requests a day, shared between chat, voice input and receipt scanning.

Note: Reef Lab does not replace professional or veterinary advice.
